Pumice - Our Products

Pumice is a highly vesicular, volcanic glass consisting mainly of silica SiO2. The high silica content (70% per g/100g) positively affects the quality of pumice increasing the hardness of the material and its resistance to chemical attack. Pumice can be described as a solid foam with spherical or pseudopolyedric structure whose pores are made of very thin layers. It is sourced from the island of Lipari, Southern Italy. Lipari pumice for industrial use is produced in two types - "Peerless" or white pumice and "Lapillo" or black pumice with slight difference in the chemical composition. .

Applications:

as mild abrasive pumice is used in glass treatments, metal finishing, polishing compounds and cosmetics.

as lightweight aggregate pumice is widely recommended in construction for the production of lightweight concrete blocks, chimney flue liners and lightweight ready mix concrete and cast stone. Pumex (UK) Ltd are also associate members of the UK Cast Stone Association www.ukcsa.co.uk
